How to Put Sponsor Logos on Event Shirts (Layout and Sizes)

Sponsor shirts go wrong in the same way every time: too many logos at the same small size, in a grid nobody can read. The fix is tiers. The biggest sponsor gets the biggest spot, and everyone else scales down from there. Build the shirt here: custom event and volunteer shirts.

The standard layout

Event name and logo on the front, sponsors on the back. The back is a flat area about 12 inches wide and 14 to 16 inches tall on an adult shirt, which is a lot of space if it is used in tiers.

  • Title or presenting sponsor: top of the back, 8 to 10 inches wide. Or on the front, under the event name, at about 4 to 5 inches wide.
  • Gold tier: 4 to 5 inches wide, two or three across.
  • Silver tier: about 3 inches wide, three or four across.
  • Community tier: 2 to 2.5 inches wide, or listed as text in a clean font.

Leave space between rows. A gap of about half an inch keeps logos from blending together.

How many logos fit?

About 12 to 16 logos is the practical limit on the back of an adult shirt before the smallest ones become unreadable. Past that, list smaller sponsors as text names, or print the full list on a banner at the event. Youth sizes have less room, so the smallest tier may need to drop to text for kids' shirts.

Collecting the right files

Ask every sponsor for the same thing, in writing, early:

  • A transparent PNG at least 3000 pixels wide, or a vector file (SVG, AI, EPS, PDF)
  • A one-color version (all white and all black) if they have one
  • Their brand rules about colors and clear space

Low-resolution logos pulled from a website or a social profile print blurry. If that is all you get, the free upscaler and background remover can help, but a proper file from the sponsor is always better.

Full color or one color?

Printing handles full color logos with no extra cost per color, so sponsors can appear in their real brand colors. Some events still convert every sponsor logo to white or one color for a clean, matched look on a dark shirt. It looks more designed, and sponsors rarely object if you ask. Embroidery is the wrong choice for sponsor walls. Small logos with fine detail do not stitch cleanly.

Get approvals

Send each sponsor a proof of the full back with their logo in place and get a written yes. It protects you if a logo version was out of date. Only use logos sponsors have provided or approved.

Ordering

Close sponsor deadlines about three weeks before the event. That leaves time to build the layout, get approvals, order one sample and then order the run. If a sponsor commits late, they can go on the banner. For order sizes, see ordering exactly what your group needs and custom merch for events.

Is there really no minimum?

None. One piece is a real order at normal pricing, with no small-order surcharge and no setup or digitizing fee. Every piece is made to order and ships in about 5 to 9 business days, and that window is the same for one piece or a few hundred. On eligible garments, volume pricing applies automatically once you order enough of the same item, usually starting around 25 pieces.
