The Embroidery Digitizing Fee, Explained (And Why We Don't Charge One)

What is digitizing and why does it cost money?

Embroidery machines do not read images. They read a stitch file that specifies every needle path, direction, density and colour change, and building one is skilled manual work rather than a conversion anyone can automate reliably. That work is genuine, and charging for it is not a scam - it is simply a fixed cost.

Why does a fixed fee hurt small orders most?

Because it does not scale with quantity. A $60 digitizing charge across two hundred pieces adds thirty cents each and disappears. The same $60 across five pieces adds twelve dollars each and can exceed the cost of the garments. That single line item is the reason most embroiderers set minimums, and the reason a five-piece embroidery order elsewhere often costs more per piece than a fifty-piece one.

What changes when the fee is removed?

Small embroidery runs become viable. A single embroidered polo costs what a single polo should cost, so ordering one to inspect the stitch before committing the budget stops being an expensive favour and becomes the normal first step.

Is there really no minimum order?

None. One piece is a real order at normal pricing with no small-order surcharge. Traditional printers set minimums because screen printing and machine embroidery both carry a fixed per-job setup cost that has to be spread across enough pieces to be worth doing. Print-on-demand production has no per-job setup, so the reason for the minimum simply does not exist - which is why ordering one to check it before committing the budget is the standard advice here.

How long does it take to arrive?

Every order is made to order and ships in five to nine business days, and that window covers a single piece and a two-hundred-piece run alike - there is no separate multi-week queue for larger orders. Our fastest verified US delivery was three days on real carrier tracking, and our fastest verified international delivery was Latvia to New York in five days. For an event, order about two weeks ahead so there is room to check the first piece and distribute sizes.
