Custom Matching Workout Sets: Leggings, Sports Bra, Shorts

A matching workout set is a sports bra with leggings or biker shorts in the same print. Because these pieces are printed all over, you control the whole surface: a solid brand color, a pattern, a camo, or a logo repeated as a texture. How the fabric works

All-over-print activewear is a polyester and spandex stretch fabric. The design is printed onto the fabric before the pieces are cut and sewn, so the color goes right into the fiber. That gives you bright color, a smooth feel and four-way stretch. It also means pattern continuity across seams is close, though seams may not line up perfectly.

Designing the set

• Use the same file for both pieces. A seamless pattern at the same scale on the bra and the leggings is what makes it a set. See how to design a seamless pattern.
• Mind the scale. A pattern that looks good on a phone screen often looks tiny on leggings. Repeats of 3 to 6 inches read well on a body.
• Dark bases are the most flattering and the most forgiving in a squat. Light and white bases need a careful test.
• Logo as texture: repeating a small logo at low contrast reads as a brand pattern. A single big logo on the thigh can look like a sticker.

The squat test

Stretch fabric thins when it stretches. Before ordering for a team or a brand launch, order one pair and do a deep squat in good light. Dark and patterned designs usually pass easily. Light solid colors are where see-through problems show up. If your brand color is light, put it in a pattern with darker areas.

Sizing

Leggings and sports bras should fit snug. Have each person go by the size chart measurements for hips and underbust. Guessing from their usual t-shirt size causes most returns. Sets can be ordered in different top and bottom sizes.

Is there really no minimum?

Every piece is made to order and ships in about 5 to 9 business days, and that window is the same for one piece or a few hundred.
